After that I was able to proceed the install step, which copies all files to the NVME drive. I ran disk utility again to format it to MacOS extended journaled. Please select a Mac OS Extended (journaled) volume instead. To meet ACID compliance all transactions are journaled independently of the main tables. If it doesnt mount up with those drivers then you can move on to assuming its APFS. I'm having trouble clean installing Mojave on a NVME (Samsung 970 EVO 1TB). If the drive came 'Formatted for Mac' then you can assume its HFS.
